Michael G. McClure, C.P.G., is responsible for planning geological evaluations and exploration programs for underground coal reserves. In addition, his duties include: assessment of the mineability of longwall, continuous miner, and surface mining operations; incorporation of borehole and rock mechanics data, field mapping, analysis of geophysical log data; and performance of detailed geological mapping of underground exposures. Mr. McClure is also the director of the coalbed methane desorption laboratory and has evaluated the development potential for coalbed methane in the western central and eastern U.S., including mapping and interpretation of photolinears for prediction of geologic hazards.
In 1978, Mr. McClure began his career in an underground coal mine in order to gain firsthand knowledge of equipment and geologic conditions. His early experience involved numerous evaluations in which hazardous mining conditions required assessment and recommendations for improving ground control and safety. He has analyzed coalbed methane potential in a dozen states and in coalbeds ranging from subbituminous to anthracite. Mr. McClure maintains Marshall Miller & Associates' extensive library of publications from federal and state agencies, industry, and academia pertaining to coalbed methane, coal mining, and coal geology for many regions of the United States and abroad. He has conducted evaluations in Mexico, Asia, South America, and Europe.
