MM&A Promotion and Creation of New Carbon Management Division
July 25th, 2008
BLUEFIELD, Va. - On July 1, Steve Carpenter was promoted to Corporate Risk Manager and Director of Carbon & International Business. As Corporate Risk Manager, Mr. Carpenter will be responsible for corporate level decisions and implementation of the risk management program.

As Director of Carbon & International Business, Mr. Carpenter will be responsible for the development, solicitation, and management of all carbon related and coordination of international projects. He will also be responsible for the Program Management of MM&A’s Southeast Regional Carbon Sequestration Partnership (SECARB) projects and will direct the Methane to Markets Program for the United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA). Mr. Carpenter will also coordinate MM&A’s efforts to provide Carbon Credit Verification work for the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX), the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Exchange (UNFCCC).

Marshall Miller & Associates, Inc. (MM&A) is also pleased to announce its newest division – Carbon Management, which provides a wide range of consulting, engineering, and environmental services. In June 2007, MM&A was approved by the CCX as a qualified, independent verifier for carbon credits related to coal mine methane (CMM) and abandoned mine methane (AMM) projects. CCX is the world’s first legally binding rules-based greenhouse gas emissions trading system.

The Carbon Management division of MM&A has significant experience in the accounting, collection, assembly, and reporting of Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions. This experience is translated from the reporting to Reduction Plans for our clients, allowing goals to be set, met, and exceeded, affording carbon off-set trading options.

MM&A is also a recipient of and participant in the USEPA’s Methane to Markets Program providing Coal Mine Methane (GHG) reduction and guidance documentation for the coal mining marketing in China. The EPA project is rooted in eliminating coalbed methane (CBM) and GHC emissions.

In addition, the Carbon Management Division was also selected as a prime contractor and lead researcher for the Southern States Energy Board (SSEB) management of United States Department of Energy’s (USDOE) SECARB Central Appalachian coal seam project. The objective of this program is to assess and verify the sequestration capacity and performance of mature CBM reservoirs in the region.
